I really want to dye my hair black (Right now it's a pretty dark brown, but I'd like black better). She's seen it black with the dye that washes out (I used it during my Halloween party), and she and everybody else said they liked it. Then my friend's mom said something about being 'punk', and suddenly she dislikes the idea. I asked her about it, and she just said instead of arguing with her about it (which I wasn't), I should go clean some part of the house. It's not financial, she knows I want black hair (so it's not that she's unsure of my intentions)... I think she thinks I'll try to be 'punk', but I don't want to bring it up in case that wasn't the reason. I don't need one more reason to get a 'no'. So, I want advice on how to talk her into this. I'm willing to wait for awhile, so things that take time are acceptable (although I don't mind quick answers, either). Thank you.

Just simply ask her in your NICEST voice of course why she doesn't want you to dye your hair black. There must be a reason... whether it's because she thinks you are turning "punk" or because she doesn't want her daughter to change. She probably thinks that you look perfect the way you are... but just tell her that you don't have a problem with yourself either, you just want to change your look up a little. The color of your hair doesn't change a person, just their looks..

So, what I am gathering is that you are not old enough to legally make your own decisions. Meaning that your parent(s) are still responsible for you?

But - when I was still under my mother's rule, she allowed me to do what I wanted when it came to my clothes (I didn't dress skimpy, or anything) and my hair. I didn't dye my hair - but I cut it however I wanted. **My mother wrote it off to a teen expressing herself.**

Your mother could have a million different reasons for not wanting you to dye your hair - until you know that reason, it is hard to give you advice on how to get what you want.

Just know that if you use a permanent black dye you will have to keep retouching the roots every 6 weeks, such a hassle ! Then when you decide " ok, Im over the black hair stage now" you have to wait till it grows out, or worse yet, get all your hair cut off...... If you must, just stick to the ones that just lasts for a few weeks for now. MY son did his hair after wanting black for a year, I finally gave in. Guess what? now he doesnt want it, tough luck as it was permananent. He had to get all his hair cut off and it still looks silly as it is still growing out, and his hair colour was a light brown before......
