Is it possible to have a specific hairstyle without it putting me in a stereotype?

Ok, I have blonde hair that I have to keep short, because if i put it up in a ponytail, even if it is so loose it's falling out, i get a huge migraine. Anyway, I need a cute short haircut.

And is it possible, while being 17 years old, to make my hair spiky, or something of the sort, without people automatically labeling me as punk or emo?

I've just had this same cut for so long (Not quite to my shoulders, layered and flipped out a bit), and I'm so bored of it. I want something different.

Any suggestions welcome
