I want to get highlights, how do I ask my mom??

I'm 14, going into 9th grade, and I want a new look for back-to-school. I have straight, black hair that is about four inches past shoulder length, and I want to get natural-looking auburn highlights. Nothing punk or anything, I want them to look pretty and subtle. I get a big allowance, so I have to pay for everything on my own, so I am going to pay for the highlights. I don't know how to ask my mom, though. She has highlights herself, so I think it'd be okay. But I'm afraid she'll say I'm too young or it'll be too much trouble or too expensive. She might say that I'm wasting my money. Or that I'll have to maintain my highlights and get them redone every 2 months. I know everything that I have to do for highlights, and I still want to get them. Any help on convincing my mom?

first-i've had highlights since 4th grade and it sounds like you wanna get them at a salon. don't, just buy a box from the drugstore or grocery store and save your allowance for shopping. 2nd- you didn't even ask your mom yet, so don't worry about convincing her yet. it's not like you want pink highlights; you're getting a natural color. if she says no, don't sweat it. first ask her why she's telling you no. explain to her that you are paying every penny of it. tell her that you're tired of your plainness and you wanna look unique. ask her if you doing anything for her would help sway her decision. make her some promises that you can keep and she may say yes. but if she doesnt, dont resent her!!!!!!! this is the worst thing that you can do. shes a parent. even if she says no a million times, she can still say yes as long as shes not dead. if she tells you no even after you try to persuade her just say ok, thats alright with me. still try to come through with the things that you said you would do if she let you get the highlights. who knows? she could have a change of heart. be nice to her, and dont yell. be fair and cooperative until you get what you want. she may feel like she owes you something. =]

carefullllyy make your mom think it was her idea reminder every once in a while that hightlihgts are somtin you really want to do

guilt trips work wonders or your can say you want to bond with her and both of you get highlitghs done at the same time

Tell her how beautiful her highlights look, and you want to have few streaks done.. don't ask just say i'm gonna have them done, and just few but then when u come back from the salon whats done is done u get more highlights, more streaks in ;)

The worse that could happen is she says no. Tell her that her hair looks nice and that you would like to do something similar. Compliments get u far.

Tell her what you just said. Go up to her and say "Mom, can I get highlights?" And if she doesn't say anything, just go on saying what you just told us. It's not that hard. And if she says no, get over it.
