Hey,you cant blame me.I grew up in a place with a lot of white people. Never had a black friend till the age of 15.

Now,I have moved to a place where there are a lotta black guys.The main thing there is gangster rap,hip hop etc............. Most of the black guys dont like me cause I listen to rock,well I hate rap,so there.

I got the maw hawk hair cut too,looks pretty unique instead of the usual cornrows.

Well the problem is I feel very out of place,since I have moved.

What should I do ?? Turn into rap?? Or stick to rock???

The problem is I cant stand rap, r%26amp;b, hip hop and **** like that.

I prefer Nu Metal,heavy metal,alternative etc ( hate punk rock)

I gotta lotta guitar skills too,I won a lotta prices but people here dont seem to be impressed by that. :(

Cmon how can a guy who lived, breathed,ate and slept rock suddenly turn into rap????

why should you change your music choices just to fit in? Did you know that the singer from kill switch engage is black,and they're one of the biggest metal bands going just now! I would stick to metal and just be yourself,ignore what others think and say about you.They're just jealous of your cool hair!

Firstly...if you need to conform, you don't need to fit it. Being like everyone else only makes you...succumbing to peer pressure...If they don't like it, remember, they will probably asking 'Paper or Plastic' in the near future.

you don't find too many black people who are into rock. I'd say stick with whatever you like most. I'm sure if i developed a taste for country music, i'd have more in common with some of the females down here in Texas - but i can't stand that crap.

I think you should be yourself and continue listening to what you like. If the guys are a big problem try hanging out with girls most of the time they are a little more into different types of music. and who knows maybe one of them will be the right girl for you or else you can just tell those guys that's what you like and if they have a problem with that oh well and try to compromise and take turns with the music. That's my advice. Dont change yourself just to fit in.

I am a 23 y/o African American/Brazilian Female who was adopted by a white German family. I grew up in a neighborhood with mostly minorities so all my friends where black and Hispanic. So I ended up listening to rap, r%26amp;b..ect...which I still like the old school stuff but I am soooo SICK and tried of the crappy rap music now that I am starting to listen to heavy metal, alternative ect.. and LOVE IT!!

Alot of my black friends listen to heavy metal too. I used to make fun of them but now I listen to the same thing!!

My point is that you should be open to listening to all different kinds of music. You personally dont have to go out and buy any rap music but whats the problem with listening to what you friends listen to while you are over at their houses. Then when you get closer to them and feel comfortable why not introduce to them the music YOU like. By that time, they like you for YOU and not the music you listen to.

Be prepared for them to tease you a little bit about the music you like but dont change for ANYBODY!!

i musta missed something, what does your race have to do with the music you like? my youngest son loves rap and hiphop crap. my oldest 2 like rock, i like heavy metal. so where does race enter into it? it's more what you were raised with that matters, not your color.

I understand exactly what you mean!!!! The best advice I can give you is to not let it bother you. I know that's hard to do. I used to live in Arizona and there were hardly any black people. So when I moved back home to Dallas, well let's just say it wasnt pretty. I Listen to all music and didnt mix with the "black persona". To all the blacks I was a white girl. IGNORANCE. But that is how they were/are. If you dont like hip hop dont listen to it. Stay who you are. There are a lot of blacks who listen to other types of music now. I dont know about heavy metal though. I cant take that for long, its too much for me!!! Just try to listen to it (rap, hip hop, R%26amp;B) if youre so gungho. Take it in a little at a time.
