maybe she wanted her music to reach a larger audience, and if that was the case she had to tone it down a bit to suit them, she is in love she no longer needs to be angry maybe thats why she chooses to be softer because she feels softer. And she isn't at all like britney spears her videos are not so slutty and her moves aren't overly sexual..come one her life isn't our business, u like her or you dont - i do..and thats y im sticking up for her..like me she changed from angry girl to girl who just wants to be happy and have fun... and like me she still has her edge ;)

i saw a video once on access hollywood where they showed a very young Avril, probably around 9 or 10, singing aloud to a Celine Dion song with a fake hairbrush (to represent a microphone, of course), so i think she's always wanted to be like Britney Spears, etc...somewhat diva-like.
it's only now that i think she finally felt comfortable to come out with her more "girly" music album which i feel she decided to do after gwen stefani was successful with her "hollaback girl" music album which combined pop and rock (her No Doubt roots) in a somewhat tasteful manner with a definite touch of the "girlyness"
in my opinion, avril has always wanted to be a blonde wearing all the pink and stuff, but she chose to debut her music in 2002 with a different punk image to grab everyone's attention away from the pop queens like Britney, Christina, etc.
and now she's jealous of them and their looks. and she wants to be a freakin' attention whore like them. and with britney all screwed up right now, what better time for her? she's such a lame piece of crap now with "Girlfriend"...Ugh. i'm disappointed.

I wouldn't exactly call her a hypocrite unless she is still saying she hates blonde singers and she would never be like them all while sporting her new look. People grow and change. She fell in love and got married and has matured and is probably seeing life, her image and career in a different light.
I still won't put her is the same category as Jessica and Britney or call her pop. She is still a punk type to me. Her songs aren't all love and butterflies and sunshine happy with simple lyrics and yelling and wooing. Avril is still edgy.
